Bring Spring Indoors!
It is getting well into April, and we are STILL awaiting spring here in the Northwest.
I love the coolness of the Northwest, and I actually love our winters. However, when it is time for spring, I WANT SPRING!
When I went on my walk the other day, I took in the dark, wet day, and decided to bring some spring color indoors. I just needed the right project to come along to get me motivated.
Inspiration
I couldn’t get floral design ideas on my walk, since there weren’t many spring flowers near me, but I did manage to get a photo of one beautiful flower starting to bloom. That later became my color inspiration.
When I got back home, I decided to move a floral applique project over from our previous website to this site, and realized it would be a perfect pattern to use for a watercolor painting! And I remembered the gorgeous flower I had taken a photo of - that became my color inspiration.
I have been playing around with gouache paints recently (and love them), and this little floral was just what I needed.

PRODUCTS USED
For your convenience, I have linked to the exact products I used. Disclosure: if you click and make a purchase, I may receive some compensation.
I do feel that you can create just about any color you need with just this small set of paints. I have ordered Winsor & Newton paints from Amazon, and will compare them to MyArtscape paints. That will be a future post. I LOVE the brushes. They do everything I need, and are not expensive.
INSTRUCTIONS
Watch the video to see the entire process.
1. Trace the pattern onto watercolor paper.
Tape the watercolor paper to a working surface. Trace or loosely free hand draw the design.
2. Follow instructions in the video to paint on the design.
Use loose strokes (don’t go for “perfection”). I started with the red flowers, then moved to the smaller flowers, leaves and pots. Mix colors as needed, as shown in the video.
3. Add detail.
Go back and add detail after the first layer has dried.
4. Scan Image
Scan your image. Use it for many other projects. If you turn it into a png file (remove all background), it becomes a beautiful graphic. Add to cards, or mix and match with other designs you have created.
