Bone Block
The bone block consists of rectangles, squares, and triangles. There are two bone blocks in the quilt. One can be rotated if you wish (refer to my finished quilt).
Bone Block Size
The block size is as unfinished block - not yet stitched together.
Each individual bone block measures 12.5" high x 14.5" wide
When all blocks are stitched together, the Puppy & Pals quilt measures 36.5” x 37.5” wide.
All seams are 1/4”.
Using Your New Bone Block
Use this pattern for your own quilt design, or use it in our adorable Puppy & Cat Pals quilt. For instructions on assembling and finishing the Puppy & Cat Pals quilt, go to:
All seams are 1/4”
Pre-wash, dry & press fabric before using
Your fabric will shrink, so pre-wash, dry and press before using if you plan to wash your project in the future.
Iron between each step. Read through all directions completely before beginning.

I recommend the following tools for cutting. I use these tools for most projects. They allow for easy, precise cutting.
rotary cutter
cutting mat
large sewing ruler
General Sewing Supplies
thread to match fabric background
sewing scissors
pins (I use quilting pins)
Fabric - two bones
Quantities allow for some shrinkage.

Remember: all seams are 1/4”
For all blocks, the background fabric is shown in grey. Refer to separate instructions on squaring down.
Rows
The bone block is made up of 4 rows: A, B C, and D.
Refer to the diagram. The two bones can be identical, or one can be a mirror image of the other. I show a mirror image in the second diagram, with rows E-H. That version is shown in the title photo at the top of the page.
The title image at the top of the post shows a MIRROR IMAGE of the bone in these directions.
ASSEMBLE
Row A
Row A is merely a piece of background fabric, but to 4.5” wide by 12.5” high.
Row B
Top Section
Sew one 2.5” x 4.5” strip of background fabric to one square of 2.5” x 2.5” bone fabric as shown in the photo.
Stitch one square of 2.5” x 2.5” background fabric to a a 3.5” x 4.5” piece of bone fabric.
Stitch these two strips together.
Center Section
Create one 2.5” square divided diagonally of background fabric and bone fabric (start with 3.5” squares, stitch together triangles, then square down to 2.5”).
Lower Section
Cut one 4.5” x 4.5” square of background fabric if you have not already done so.
Stitch the upper section to the center section. Then stitch the 4.5” square to the bottom of the center section.
Row B is now complete.
Row C
Create one 2.5” square divided diagonally of background fabric and bone fabric (made from 3.5” squares that are cut, stitched and squared down). Stitch one 2.5” x 4.5” strip of background fabric to the top of the divided square as in the photo. Under the divided square, sew on a 2.5” x 4.5” strip of bone fabric. Under that, stitch on a 2.5” square of background fabric.
Row D
For the middle strip, sew one 2.5” square of bone fabric to one 2.5” square of background fabric as shown. Sew that strip to one 4.5” x 6.5” piece of background fabric on top and one 4.5” x 4.5” square of background fabric on the bottom. Refer to the photo.
Stitch Rows Together
Stitch Row A to Row B. Then stitch to Row C, then to Row D.
