ASSEMBLE
I created my puppy block in three rows, A, B, & C. Refer to the photo below.
Row A: Tail, main body and hind leg
Tail
Cut the 3.5” x 3.5” background and tail fabric pieces on the diagonal and arrange as shown for Row A, top. Stitch them together and square down to 2.5”. You will have one tail / background square. Sew the 2.5” tail square to a 2.5” background square as shown. Stitch that strip to a 6.5” x 4.5” background strip.
Main Body
The 8.5” x 4.5” piece of puppy fabric makes up the main body.
Hind Leg
Create one 2.5” square divided diagonally of background fabric and puppy fabric for the upper leg. Sew that to a 2.5” x 2.5” square of puppy fabric.
This creates the lower leg’s paw. Sew that strip on the left to a 2.5” x 4.5” strip of puppy fabric, and on the right to a 4.5” x 4.5” square of background fabric.
Refer to the following photos and diagram.
Row B: ear, chest, front leg
Ear
Cut one 3” x 5” piece from the background fabric and the puppy ear fabric. Cut them on the diagonal as shown in the photograph. Stitch together and square down the piece to 2.5” wide x 4.5” high. Stitch a 2.5” x 2.5” square of puppy ear fabric to the bottom. Sew that strip to a 2.5” x 6.5” strip of puppy fabric on the right, as shown.
Stitch a 2.5” high x 4.5” long strip of dog fabric under the ear piece you just completed.
Chest / front leg
Create one 2.5” x 2.5” square divided diagonally of background fabric and puppy fabric for the front upper leg (cut 3.5” squares diagonally, stitch them together and square down to 2.5”). Sew together with a 2.5” x 2.5” square of background fabric as shown. Sew that strip to the left of a 2.5” x 4.5” strip of puppy fabric.
The underbelly and front leg are now complete.
Stitch the sections together to have a complete Row B.
Row B is now complete.
Row C: face, front paw
Face
Create two 2.5” diagonally divided squares of puppy fabric and background fabric as shown. Stitch together with a 2.5” square of puppy fabric in the center. This completes the face.
Paw
Cut one 1.5” wide x 2.5” high piece of puppy fabric, and one 1.5” wide x 2.5” high piece of background fabric. Stitch them together to create one 2.5” square. This is the paw.
Stitch face to a strip of 2.5” x 4.5” background fabric.
Under that, stitch on the paw piece. Row C is now complete.
Stitch Rows Together
Stitch Row A to Row B, then stitch to Row C.
